Overview

The HR Business Partner will work closely with Hampton’s core business leaders to support and enhance the HR departments throughout the company. The HR Business Partner will focus on providing guidance and build momentum for Hampton’s Employer of Choice initiatives related to recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, retention, and engagement for U.S. Sawmills, Lumber Reload locations, and our Forest Resources teams. The position will lead a team that includes the Learning and Development Manager, Corporate Recruiter, and Corporate Office HR Manager. A key focus of this role will be to support the HR departments at Hampton’s six U.S. sawmills in Washington and Oregon while also overseeing HR functions at our corporate and forestry offices. This position is based out of Hampton’s corporate office in Portland, Oregon and will require regular travel to our WA and OR sawmills. The HR Business Partner will report to the CEO.

Responsibilities

Employee Experience

  • Provide both leadership and some administrative support to facilitate progress with the mills as a collective, helping them collaborate, share and adopt best practices, and align with the Executive Team’s expectations.
  • Develop/improve admin systems for mills so relevant data is visible and easier for mill teams to understand and use.
  • Lead collaborative team efforts/projects for the organization and sawmills to investigate improved HR systems, methods, and practices.
  • Draft and distribute company policies and informational memos

HR Legal Guidance and Compliance

  • Provide guidance to company managers related to HR legal matters, concerns, and advice.
  • Enlist the guidance of in-house and external counsel in legal matters as appropriate.
  • Participate in legal proceedings related to HR matters.
  • Provide guidance on desired HR systems and methods in alignment with Best Practices.
  • Assure mandatory training materials are developed, deployed, and tracked across the company.

 Recruitment

  • Lead efforts to enhance recruitment activities, including working with teams in the corporate office and mill locations to inform development and assess effectiveness of digital advertising campaigns for hourly and salaried positions.
  • Support development of clear, compelling job descriptions, write job offers, and assist with enhancing the on-boarding experience.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience effectively leading and developing a team of direct reports required.
  • Sufficient knowledge of employment laws and best practices and ability to know when to seek external guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent computer skills in Office 365 environment.
  • Familiarity with computerized HR systems.
  • Project management/Change Management experience with groups in a large/complex organization preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in related roles with progressive leadership preferred.
