Overview

We are seeking a Network Engineer with strong character who is proactive, flexible, creative, kind, patient and able to travel 10-20% of the month. The position requires practical hands-on knowledge and a thorough understanding of network administration. Additional knowledge and experience with systems administration is desiredThis person must have, or develop, an understanding of underlying business fundamentals and strive to achieve objectives supporting those business requirements.

Responsibilities

Detailed responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide production network deployment, configuration, support and upgrades of Switches, Routers, end-point devices as well as WAN circuits, MPLS and VPN services. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting production network devices, including but not limited to desktops, servers, switches, routers, and video cameras. 
  • Assist as needed with patch management for all production devices. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standardized IT practices and procedures. 
  • Assist with design, implementation, and support of network upgrades for locations across the United States, and British Columbia. 
  • Perform network monitoring to provide proactive alerting and historical performance records. 
  • Plan for capacity and growth of the environment. 
  • Collaborate with other support teams to provide quality of service to both internal and external partners. 
  • Collaborate with 3rd party vendors to develop support/upgrade procedures for network devices. 
  • Documentation in the form of basic how to documents, designs documentation, performance reporting as well as operational procedures. 
  • Ensures network security standards are maintained and enhanced. 
  • Participate in 24x7 system support rotation and handle escalations. 
  • Requires travel between sites; must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. 
  • Must be focused on quality customer service for both internal and external customers. 
  • Must work well in a team-based structure and in situations of limited supervision. 
  • Ability to be flexible in evaluating priority tasks and multitask to maintain a high level of control over area of responsibility. 
  • Develops and understands key deadlines and is committed to achieving those deadlines. 
  • Constantly strive for improvement in systems, processes, and efficiencies.   
  • Management may modify, add or reallocate job responsibilities to better accommodate the needs of the business. 

Qualifications

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Fundamental understanding of network systems, operating systems, program maintenance, systems administration, and enterprise applications 
  • Fundamental understanding and direct hands-on experience with major vendor’s router and switch configurations: Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Rockwell. 
  • Strong wired and wireless network troubleshooting skills using network traces to find root causes. 
  • In-depth understanding and experience with WAN technologies: MPLS / EVPL, DS1, DS2, OCS, T1/T3, and even POT’s and dial up modem services. 
  • Experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is strongly desired. 
  • Proficient in the following network protocols: TCP/IP, RIP, DNS, BGP, OSPF, SIP, VOIP, SFTP, etc. 
  • Experience using Microsoft NPS, IIS, and DHCP 
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting dynamic routing protocols. 
  • Solid understanding and direct hands-on experience with Windows operating systems is required. 
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong collaboration skills, working directly with non-technical stakeholders on discussing requirements, tasks, and implementation. 
  • Proven ability to work as a team and adapt to different roles. 
  • Extensive experience with the setup and support of business-to-business VPN’s is a plus. 

 

Education & Training Required: 

  • Related bachelor's degree plus 3 years direct experience, or 8 years of experience with enterprise networks. 
  • Network/Security Certifications (CCNA,CCNP,CCIE,CISSP) are strongly desired. 
  • Strong understanding of WLAN technologies including 802.11 and Aruba mesh point to multi-point networks.
