Overview

As Timber Procurement Manager, you will provide supervision with direct financial and regulatory compliance responsibility for timber procurement and sawmill residuals for our Allendale lumber mill.  This position will be based out of South Carolina, which will be the work area. This position will report to the General Manager. This is a full-time position offering competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility of log procurement for the Allendale sawmill, annual budget preparation and forecasting, management of timber procurement bids and contracts, supervision and development of the Allendale procurement staff
  • Manage daily residual operations, ensuring product quality, building strong relationships, negotiating rates, and supporting sustainable business growth while maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Mentor foresters that report to you and develop their capabilities to the level where they could provide back up for you on the required daily management of log deliveries and byproducts, contract administration, and intercompany communication
  • Overseeing the hiring for procurement positions, dependent on business needs to support the timber acquisition for Allendale, as well as the career development of these foresters.
  • Annual budget preparation and forecasting of log supply and inventory for the Allendale sawmill.
  • Overall management of timber sale appraisals, procurement bids and contracts, vendor price negotiations, and supervision and development of other procurement and log receiving staff
  • Oversee and review timber sale appraisals and recommend bid decisions
  • Direct the procurement, allocation, and external marketing of log supply available to the Allendale sawmill to achieve maximum financial benefit for the sawmill, utilizing Return to Log Value tools.
  • Work closely with the Hampton management team to support the HCI (Lean Processes creation and management) initiative.
  • Ensuring safe working conditions with active participation in company safety programs, ensuring that all activities are conducted in full compliance with laws, regulations, and policy, and collaborating with operations staff to ensure company objectives are achieved.
  • Represent the company in a proactive and positive manner with contractors, neighbors, public agencies, and the industry
  • Must have strong technical, analytical, problem-solving solving and communication skills

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a forest-related discipline, or a related natural resources field, and at least 10 years of demonstrated field, administrative and supervisory experience
  • Excellent PC skills using Microsoft products: Microsoft Office Suite 365
  • Professional level verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail with solid analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate opportunities and provide practical solutions given the business environment
  • Strong work ethic, sense of commitment, team-oriented, customer focused and willingness to embrace change that strives for continuous improvement while exemplifying the highest level of honesty and integrity
  • Superior organizational skills, plus the ability to initiate and handle multiple projects and deadlines and the ability to work with multiple internal customers and team members from varied levels and functional backgrounds
  • Self-starter with the ability to accept or take on additional responsibility and develop their own agenda to support requirements of internal customers
