Overview

Forklift operators at Arlington are asked to perform a wide variety of tasks. Forklift operators unload finished product from lumber trucks, sort the product into proper locations, and assist with paper wrapping procedures at the facility. Forklift operators load outbound trucks, box cars, flat cars, and A-frame railcars with the appropriate material. They also perform the necessary car cabling and car tightening, tie down, air bagging, or banding needed for each type of load.

 

The person who fills this position must have the ability to learn to access shipping computer system to generate required paperwork for shipping and inventory information. As production needs dictate, forklift operators will also assist with processing side loads, paper wrapping procedures, and general site maintenance or clean-up.

Responsibilities

  • Practice safe work habits & comply with all company work & safety standards.
  • Capable of walking on and around truck trailers, flat cars, loading dock, box cars, and A-framesCapable hand stapler, bander, and other hand tools in a safe manner.
  • Process enough material in a safe manner to keep pace with production flow.
  • Process material in a manner that eliminates product, facility, and machine damage.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of the facility and equipment.
  • Follow Company lockout, safety, and work standards.
  • Must be willing to attend any training necessary to upgrade performance.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner so injury does not occur to operator or any employee in the area.
  • Notify lead of any problem that arise during the shift.
  • Must be willing to train any employees as assigned by lead person.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.

 

Qualifications

  • Hampton PIT certification and Fall Protection
  • Must be able to learn the procedure for above and ground level cabling of railcars
  • Have strong  communication both verbal and written
  • Ability to work/communicate professionally with lumber carriers, vendors, and railroad operators
  • Good hand/eye coordination
  • Working knowledge of lumber species and product mix preferred but not required
  • Ability to identify attributes and barcodes is preferred but not required
  • Proficient in Excel and Lumbertrack is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to work at heights of at least 15 feet.
  • Experience with loading and unloading railcars and lumber trucks is preferred but not required.
