Overview

Hampton Lumber is seeking a Millwright Supervisor to join our Warrenton, OR, sawmill team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for guiding the maintenance crew, ensuring safe and reliable mill operations, and partnering closely with production and leadership teams. The Millwright Supervisor plays a key role in balancing planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance activities while building a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Success in this role means being visible in the plant, approachable to employees, and proactive in addressing equipment issues before they become problems. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical knowledge, clear communication, and the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities—including maintenance team members, production leads, subcontractors, and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership: Champion safe work practices, enforce standards, and lead incident prevention efforts.
  • Team Development: Lead, coach, and mentor maintenance employees; foster growth through on-the-job training and feedback. 
  • Planning & Execution: Schedule and prioritize daily/weekly maintenance tasks; balance urgent repairs with long-term preventive and predictive programs.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve issues with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to minimize downtime. 
  • Collaboration: Partner with production supervisors to align maintenance priorities with mill goals.
  • Vendor Oversight: Manage subcontractors and vendors, ensuring high-quality, timely, and cost-effective work.
  • Continuous Improvement: Track downtime data, lead root cause analysis, and implement solutions to reduce recurring issues.
  • Resource Management: Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and cost management for parts and supplies.
  • Compliance & Administration: Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and company standards. Maintain accurate documentation and records through CMMS and reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
  • 10+ years of millwright or related maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in a sawmill or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in CMMS/planning systems and Microsoft Office.
  • First Aid/CPR and PIT certification (or ability to obtain).

More About Us

Hampton took over management of the Warrenton plant in 2010, however, this site has had a sawmill on it since 1921. We currently employ 140 people, some of which have worked here for over 30 years while others have just started their careers. This creates an incredible team of skilled problem-solvers who work together to continuously improve in all areas within the plant-site.
