Overview

The HR Generalist / Safety Coordinator provides hands-on support to both human resources and safety operations across our northern BC sawmill sites. This dual-role position plays a key part in fostering a safe, productive, and engaged workplace. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, self-directed professional who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment and enjoys being a trusted partner to mill leadership and employees alike.

Responsibilities

Human Resources (Approx. 60%)

  • Support the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training coordination, and offboarding.
  • Advise supervisors and employees on HR policies, collective agreements, and employment standards.
  • Facilitate the resolution of employee relations matters in a fair, consistent, and confidential manner.
  • Maintain employee records and assist with HR reporting, compliance tracking, and workforce analytics.
  • Support workforce planning and talent development initiatives in partnership with site leadership.

Health & Safety (Approx. 40%)

  • Lead and promote a proactive safety culture across all three sites.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and internal safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Maintain required documentation and records for COR and WorkSafeBC audits.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in both Human Resources and Health & Safety, ideally within a manufacturing or wood products environment.
  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of BC employment legislation and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly self-directed with strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and willingness to travel regularly between sites.
