Overview

The HR Manager will be a key member of the Allendale leadership team, responsible for building and leading all human resources functions at Hampton Lumber’s newest sawmill. This role will help shape the site’s culture from the ground up — ensuring that hiring, training, and engagement practices reflect Hampton’s values of safety, respect, and integrity. The HR Manager will partner closely with the General Manager and corporate HR to attract and develop great people, ensure compliance with employment laws, and foster a strong, inclusive, and high-performing team.

Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Lead recruitment and selection for both hourly and salaried positions as the mill ramps up and scales operations.
  • Develop creative sourcing strategies to attract skilled tradespeople and production team members from the local community.
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and new hire training to ensure employees are set up for success.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with employees and supervisors to promote open communication and a positive work environment.
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance management, coaching, and disciplinary processes.
  • Drive employee engagement and recognition programs that reinforce Hampton’s people-first culture.

Training & Development

  • Identify training needs and coordinate development programs for production and leadership roles.
  • Partner with maintenance and operations teams to support skills training and certification programs.
  • Promote career growth and internal mobility within the Hampton network.

Compliance & Policy Administration

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws and Hampton company policies.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and support corporate HR audits and reporting.
  • Support site leadership in maintaining a safe, respectful, and harassment-free workplace.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Administer pay programs, timekeeping, and benefits in coordination with corporate HR and payroll.
  • Support annual performance review and merit processes.

Culture & Community

  • Serve as a culture leader, promoting Hampton’s mission and values throughout the site.
  • Build relationships with local schools, workforce agencies, and community organizations to support recruiting and community involvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience in manufacturing, wood products, or industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADA, etc.).
  • Proven ability to balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
