Overview

The EH&S Manager will play a key role in establishing and maintaining a safe, environmentally responsible, and people-centered workplace at Hampton’s new sawmill in Allendale, SC. This position will lead all safety, health, and environmental programs while partnering closely with operations and leadership to create a culture where safety and environmental stewardship are core values — not just compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Lead by example in creating a proactive safety culture built on trust, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs aligned with Hampton’s values.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout mill operations.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning and drills to prepare the site for any event.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and permits (air, water, waste, stormwater, SPCC, etc.).
  • Lead environmental programs that minimize waste, reduce emissions, and promote resource conservation.
  • Maintain required documentation and reporting for state and federal agencies.
  • Support Hampton’s sustainability goals by integrating environmental responsibility into daily operations.

Health & Wellness

  • Oversee occupational health programs such as hearing conservation, ergonomics, and PPE use.
  • Support employee well-being through education, proactive initiatives, and wellness partnerships.

Training & Engagement

  • Develop and deliver EH&S orientation and ongoing training for all team members and contractors.
  • Communicate safety performance, lessons learned, and success stories throughout the mill.
  • Champion continuous improvement by involving employees in hazard recognition and safety improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of EH&S experience in manufacturing, forest products, or industrial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and South Carolina state regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence positive change, and lead teams.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a hands-on, field-based leadership style.
  • Experience in sawmill or wood products operations.
  • CSP, ASP, or CHST certification.
  • Prior experience starting up or building EH&S programs in new facilities.
