Overview

Hampton Lumber is seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused HR/Safety Assistant to support daily human resources operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on support across the employee lifecycle—including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and administrative processes—while helping maintain a positive and compliant workplace.

The HR Assistant works closely with the HR Manager and Leadership Team to ensure consistent application of HR policies and to support employees and supervisors on the plant floor. This position requires strong organizational skills, confidentiality, and a proactive approach to supporting both employees and business needs.

 

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 730am-430pm, Friday 730am-130pm (Schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the facility).

 

This position has an hourly rate of $25.26  ($52,540 annually) Production bonuses are possible for every employee each month, based on the plant site’s target goals.  

 

Salary Range $25.26 - $26.56

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment & Hiring

    • Assist with job postings, candidate tracking, and scheduling interviews.
    • Support recruiting efforts to attract qualified candidates.
    • Maintain applicant tracking systems (iCIMS) and hiring records.
    • Help coordinate pre-employment activities such as background checks and drug screenings.

    Onboarding & Retention

    • Coordinate new hire onboarding and orientation logistics.
    • Prepare onboarding materials and ensure completion of required documentation.
    • Help create a welcoming experience for new employees.
    • Assist with employee engagement and retention initiatives.
    • Support exit interview scheduling and documentation.

    Employee Relations & Leadership Support

    • Serve as a point of contact for basic employee questions and HR-related inquiries.
    • Assist with maintaining consistent application of policies and procedures.
    • Help coordinate meetings related to workplace concerns or investigations.

    Training & Development

    • Track and maintain employee training records.
    • Coordinate training sessions and scheduling.
    • Assist with the communication of training opportunities.
    • Support internal communications such as bulletin boards and site updates.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Support safety initiatives and help maintain safety documentation.
    • Assist with workers’ compensation paperwork.
    • Help ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies.
    • Administer and track leave programs (FMLA, PFML, LOA) documentation.

    Payroll, Benefits & Administration

    • Assist with payroll updates and data entry as needed.
    • Support benefits administration, including open enrollment and employee questions.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR files.
    • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, reporting, and data tracking.

    Culture & Engagement

    • Support employee recognition and engagement programs.
    • Help organize events and initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture.
    • Maintain visibility on the plant floor and build relationships with employees.

    Leadership & Operations Support

    • Assist with HR-related reporting and documentation.
    • Participate in meetings as needed to support HR initiatives.
    • Provide general support to the HR Manager and leadership team.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and team initiatives.

    Qualifications

    • 1–3 years of experience in HR, administrative support, or a related field preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of HR practices and employment laws.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HR systems (e.g., UKG, Docuware)
    • Willingness to spend time on the plant floor interacting with employees.
    •  HR processes.

    Additional Information

    • Occasional travel to other Hampton facilities or corporate offices may be required.
    • Job responsibilities may evolve to meet changing business needs.

Qualifications

 

  • 1–3 years of experience in HR, administrative support, or a related field preferred.
