Overview

We are currently looking for a Head Saw Filer to join our team. This position will report directly to our Plant Manager.

 

The ideal candidate exhibits strong communication and organizational skills and works well in a team environment. We are looking for an individual who takes pride in their workmanship and can help identify opportunities for improvements while working with our filers and mill teams to develop cost effective solutions without compromising product quality. 

 

In the spirit of Lean Manufacturing, you will be working with our filers and mill teams on the relentless pursuit of waste elimination and continuous improvement, understanding the continuous improvement journey never ends. Responsibilities

  • Will address safety concerns and hold co-workers accountable to company safety standards
  • Be a leader- motivate, encourage, teach, learn, and listen.
  • Be willing to learn lean manufacturing techniques and implement them in Filing department. Build strong communication between the filing team and mill teams.
  • Teamwork- create and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork with Filing department
  • Work with Maintenance and Production departments.
  • Recovery- Ensure the sawing equipment consistently achieves the mills goals pertaining to productivity and setting high goals for reducing standard deviation.
  • Work with Regional Saw Filing Manager to improve all aspects of saw filing.
  • Establish and share best practices related to saw filing techniques, work flow, and preventative maintenance on mill and saw shop machinery.
  • Develop the most cost-effective approach to saw and chipper knife maintenance without sacrificing product quality.
  • Develop and maintain a saw QC verification and audit process to ensure consistent quality standards are maintained.
  • Develop efficient filing room layouts using Lean tools.
  • Work closely with mills related to trouble shooting complex sawing issues, quality control needs and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills:

  • Conduct safety trainings and crew meetings
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Has experience in a saw filing leadership role and hands on filing experience
  • Ability to learn Lean Manufacturing
  • Discipline to keep self and filing team focused on finishing the most important projects before taking on more projects.
  • Continued education for yourself and mill filing teams
  • Ability to create a competitive, rewarding, and fun work environment
  • Good communication skills

 

Education and Training:

  • Have a GED or High School Diploma
  • Minimum of five years of Head filer experience
  • High level of comfort and knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, with competency in Microsoft Excel
  • Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification
